Película hecha a los coñazos. El holandés Paul Verhoeven dirigió una de mis películas favoritas, STARSHIP TROOPERS, y dos clásicos muy respetables de la ciencia ficción contemporánea como ROBOCOP y TOTAL RECALL, además de la original BAJOS INSTINTOS y SHOWGIRLS, que no he podido ver (es la película con censura sólo para adultos más taquillera de todos los tiempos). De Verhoeven me encanta su desinhibición sexual, sus referencias irónicas a la cultura pop y su olfato para insertar la burla de contrabando dentro del cine de género. Pero con EL LIBRO NEGRO me queda la sensación de que, a pesar de sus 68 años biológicos, no es un director con la madurez para afrontar las filigranas del cine histórico.
Rachel Stein (Carice Van Houten), cantante judía con aire a los más recientes videoclips de Christina Aguilera, se las arregla para sobrevivir en la Holanda óoupada de la etapa final de la II Guerra Mundial valiéndose de su artillería de mujer. Entre sus amantes, Müntze (Sebastian Koch), general nazi amante de la filatelia, y Hans (Thom Hoffman), terrorista de la resistencia y especie de Russell Crowe holandés.
Las conclusiones de EL LIBRO NEGRO: 1. no se puede confiar en absolutamente nadie; 2. La vida es sexo, violencia y mierda —Verhoeven, fiel a su estilo destructor, hace que la escena culminante de su película sea 100% excrementicia—; 3. la paz es una quimera debido a la naturaleza humana; 4. denuncia de cierto antisemitismo e intolerancia dentro de la población holandesa. Lo que no está nada mal; de hecho, es una de esas raras películas del Holocausto en las que los nazis no tienen un maniqueo monopolio de la maldad.
El problema, señor Verhoeven, es el acabado. El desenlace resuelto a los carajazos con exceso de explicaciones, las escenas gratuitas heredadas del cine de acción, cierta tendencia a quedarse en la peripecia y en la anécdota.
Nota: Carise Van Houten hará pareja con Tom Cruise, quien seguro se la pegará en la vida real, en VALKYRIE (2008), el nuevo proyecto de la dupla Bryan Singer-Christopher McQuarrie, también sobre la Alemania nazi.
Dura: 2 horas y 15 minutos.
Calidad: imagen excelente, pantalla completa. Audio original con subtítulos opcionales en español, traducción de buena calidad, que debe ser atribuida a una empresa criolla llamada Mega Video.
Conseguida: creo que por los lados del mercado de los corotos de la esquina de Camejo, cerca de Pajaritos y del CNE.
